Many mothers who are refuges have stated that one point in their life they have been abused by their husbands. This is besides the fact that they have been through a lot and trying to find refuge in a whole new country. Most of the women are left to take car of the kids alone when the husband decides to leave for fear of responsibility. Others are abused by their spouses who are much stressed and find I hard to adopt to another lifestyle.

Many refugee women opt o stay with their abusive spouses because of the children. They fear what will happen to their future if they do not have jobs and one to lean on. They also fear their children will be taken away by social services if they are not in a position to provide others want to raise their children in the traditional setting a family so that the children can get to know both parents and the importance of a family unit.
