Many mothers who are refuges have stated that one point in their life they have been abused by their husbands. This is besides the fact that they have been through a lot and trying to find refuge in a whole new country. Most of the women are left to take car of the kids alone when the husband decides to leave for fear of responsibility. Others are abused by their spouses who are much stressed and find I hard to adopt to another lifestyle.

Many refugee women opt o stay with their abusive spouses because of the children. They fear what will happen to their future if they do not have jobs and one to lean on. They also fear their children will be taken away by social services if they are not in a position to provide others want to raise their children in the traditional setting a family so that the children can get to know both parents and the importance of a family unit. Most of the women say they far facing community when they are single and fear the children will face stigmatism. Others will opt to stay because of traditional values.

Abusive Relationship
Most refugees’ some form places where the children are viewed ass the fathers property they fear loosing their kids to the other family and they will be left alone. They also fear being branded as prostitutes by the community members. Others say that the community finds it hard to accept and respect single mothers and they will refer to have a husband who is abusing them but will not be discriminated by the society. Others say they fear being deported back to their countries and they want to provide a good life for the children.

All in all, the mother’s main focus is the child and hey will do anything possible to give their children a better life even if it means suffering on each and every night on the account of beating s subjected by the husband.
Some of the barriers the women will face when they leave their families include :-

  • Poverty and no place to call a home
  • They will be branded as a bad example by the people of the society
  • They do not know where to go when faced with abuse
  • Their immigration condition limits them from taking action
  • If they have parents who dictate their every move and cut out with the external world
  • They fear the society will spread their issues and they prefer to die in silence

Custody of the children
Many refugee women said that they fear the state will not grant them custody of their children especially if they are not working. Most of the women are not well educated and they will opt know how to fight for their rights or get a job. The women also come from communities that believe women have no right to report their husbands and the husband is always right. For the love of the children, most of them will opt to stay and hope things will change for the better.
